Remove your mail server ip from Microsoft blacklist – outlook/hotmail
If your mail server is blacklisted by Microsoft (outlook.fr/.com and hotmail.fr/.com), you must follow this guide :
Step 1 : Check if your mail server’s is blacklisted on other BL (BlackList)
You can use these online tools, in order to verify your server reputation :
Step 2 : If you are Blacklisted by several blacklist
If your mail server’s reputation has been already OK, you can skip this step, otherwise, you must try to understand why you are Blacklisted.
The most common problems :
- A mail account with a weak password (check mail queue, check mail log/stats).
- A malicious script on your server.
- A corrupt public webapp (check mail in /var/mail/ and /var/log/mail.log).
- Verify the reverse DNS of your ip address.
- Check your SPF record.
- Check your DKIM/DMARC configuration.
Step 3 : Register your public IP address on postmaster.live.com (Smart Network Data Service)
If you are the owner of your public IP address associated with your mail server, you should register it on the website postmaster.live.com.
The SNDS tools provided by Microsoft is very useful if you want to monitor or improve your mail server’s reputation from Microsoft (hotmail/outlook)
Prerequiste for register an IP in SNDS :
- You need to have an live.com account.
- You must be able to validate that you are the owner of the IP address.
How to validate that you are the owner of the ip address ?
If you are the owner of the domain name associated with the reverse DNS. You can register and validate the registration process (owner check).
mail.sysadmin-community.com is the reverse dns of my mailserver.
I must create first, an mail address email@example.com, in order to receive and validate the register request sent by SNDS.
If you are not the owner of the domain name associated with the reverse DNS. You can send a request at your hosting company or your ISP provider.
Step 4 : Request IP address’s re-examination (blacklist’s removal form)
Complete the form.
Don’t forget to copy the received error message. If your mail server has a good reputation, you should be remove of the blacklist under 24/48 hours.
